Comments: I just wanted to say that this is a great site. I am 15 years old. I wanted to find out more about Robert Sennett because I have his POWMIA bracelet. My aunt gave it to me. I never take it off. It was really nice to see him and the men he was with. I feel almost connected to them in a way. I am very honored to have his bracelet. I use it as a constant reminder of all the great men and women who served in any war. Thankyou

Comments: I had Robert R. Sennett’s bracelet until about a year ago. My house was broke into and they stole my trinket box with all my mementoes. I could replace the TV and the VCR, but the bracelet can never be replaced. I received the bracelet from my father, when he was stationed in San Diego, CA, he is now retired from the Navy. I had the bracelet between 25 to 30 years I cannot remember just how long. I would take it out from time to time and wear it over the years. My son went into the Army in 1993 and was in Washington, D.C. the first place that he visited was the Vietnam Wall so that he could send me a picture of Robert Sennett’s name. I thank God for all our service men and women. Thank you for your site.

I served on the Hornet from april 65 til june 66.At that time I was a BM3 in the 2nd div. After viewing the site I got my old cruisebook out and it sure brought back a lot of old memories and made me wonder what ever happened to all of my old shipmates.Keep up the good work and God Bless You.

Comments: My father served in the Royal Australian Navy as a comando in the elite `Z FORCE`. He did his training at Cunungra in the Queensland jungle, and then on to Frazer Island for advanced training. Part of dads training was on board the `Krait`, a captured Japanese fishing vessel. She was the boat used by the men of Z Force in the spectacular raid on Singapore Harbour, led by Major Lyon in 1943,known as operation `Jaywick`. The following year they decided to carry out another raid on Singapore Harbour, my father had just finished his training and was awaiting orders that would take him onboard `Porpoise`, the British submarine that would carry him and the rest of the comandos (all except dad and one other were veterans of operation Jaywick)to just off Singapore Bay, where they were to go in under the cover of darkness in `Sleeping Beauties`, electrically powed submersible boats, they looked a little like kayaks.
The day before they were destined to leave on what is known as `Operation Rimau`, dad and the other Australian, both having no actual combat experience, were replaced by two `veterans` having just returned from leave. To this day, no one really knows what exactly happened, but not one of thoes Z Force comandos were ever seen again.

Comments: This is a lovely tribute to my brother and the great guys who flew with him. I wish everyone had the good fortune to know my brother Bill. We used to fly model planes together as kids and Bill's dream was to be a pilot. The last time I saw him was in October of 1964 after I got out of the Army and visited him in San Diego. We went to North Island and climbed in his aircraft and he pointed out the features of his craft, but didn't go into details about his missions--he simply showed me the escape hatch in the top of the cockpit and said if he ever got in trouble he was going to bail out of the craft through that door. We continued to write on a regular basis after that, including one last letter that he sent to me from the Hornet when action was heating up. That letter was much like a last will and testament, telling me what he wanted me to do if he never came back. I was completely spooked by it and scoffed after reading it through--a bit of bravado on Bill's part, I told myself, not wanting to think he was ever in that much trouble. Obviously, they were flying missions that posed great risk, interdicting surface craft that might be carrying armaments to North Vietnamese troops fighting in South Vietnam. For 8 years, we held out hope that Bill and his crew were taken prisoner, but when the repatriation came in 1974, we greeted the return of America's POW with great joy and overwhelming sadness--a sadness that continues to visit us regardless of the passage of time and acceptance of the inevitability that Bill and his valiant crew met their death that night.

Comments: Bob, I found this when looking at the USS Hornet guest book. I was the Communications Department Chief from 8-63 to 8-66 and was personally acquainted with Chief Frenyea and vividly remember that day when they failed to return. Also remember a couple of weeks later when the machine gunned, inflation hose cut, life raft was recovered and its numbers were from the missing S2F.I have visited the WALL on the Washington, D.C. mall 3 times and paid homage to "Frenchy" each time Thank you for this page..

Comments: I just graduated from the CPO academy for USCG Chiefs in New London, CT., the home of the USCG Academy. We went through 4 and 1/2 weeks of leadership training and during one class in particular, the Gulf of Tonkin incident was briefly mentioned. Due to our class schedule, I was unable to explore this incident earlier and thought to search the web once I returned home to learn more about it.

Comments: Beautiful site! Haunting, if you are of the Viet Nam era. I lost a friend there, but was fortuntate to have the rest of my friends come back. Keep up the fight so that one day they might all come home.

Comments: I proudly served aboard the USS Hornet in 1961. I reported aboard from Boot Camp on New Years Eve at 2330 Dec. 31, 1960. I spent approx. 6 months aboard, in E division, until I was assigned to "ETA" school. It was my first experence aboard a grand ship. Upon completion of "A" school I reported aboard the USS Hassayampa AQ145 We spent many days of operation with the Hornet over the last three years of my tour. She was a great ship and I am proud to say that I served aboard her, even if I was mostly in Puget Sound Navel Ship Yards.
